An Equal

You taunt the depth of night with a moon-lit brilliance

exclaiming "the universe swam in an ocean of similitudes and analogies"

And that we grow like a chambered Nautilus

toughening our mortal shells against frivolities

We channel the cottage-smoke of English homes

from Longfellow, Whitman, and Holmes

We weave through the golden rays of Oriental tales

Pensive in nature: you are disguised by dense veils

I wander all night in my vision---

prodigious vessels splitting the throbbing sky,

veins of my cities rumbling with motion,

and an equal to see eye to eye
